Shale Study - Kimmeridge

General Information

I have been teaching watercolour classes privately for 5 years running classes in Mere and Gillingham. A class currently runs on Thursday afternoons 2.00-4.00 at Vicarage School Room, Gillingham, Dorset. This small group of enthusiasts explore skills and techniques to develop an individual painting style and work on individual projects or themes selected by the group with guidance and demonstrations where required.

These Watercolour classes and occasional Creative Days have followed 18 years of working in adult and community learning with a PGCE teaching qualification as a background and a degree in Three Dimensional Design 2:1 Ceramics and Wood (Manchester Polytechnic), and a Foundation Art Diploma (Bournemouth) where watercolour was an intrinsic part of presentations and worksheets.

My own watercolour work ranges from still life to landscapes emphasising land, sea and sky. Abstract work and semi-realistic impressions are often part of the development of a body of paintings. I have had two solo exhibitions:

A Sense of Place - 26th April-2nd May 2017 at Shaftesbury Arts Centre

Coastline - 9th-22nd October 2019 at Shaftesbury Arts Centre

and have worked to commission and have a painting in an Australian collectors collection. When possible I like to present work in different media exploring both two and three dimensional aspects of a theme. Watercolour is usually the starting point and often the resolution of an idea.
